Community Development

Projects for the development of some of the suburban communities of Rio de Janeiro

The projects “Construindo Cidadania” and “Irma Celina” are both located in two very deficient areas both economically and socially, and are focused on providing a reinforcing school service. Among the proposed activities, as well as after-school, they are conducted workshops in dance, percussion and art. One of the points that the projects always develop most is the integration with the families of the children and teens, trying to involve the community in sports and crafts activities. The two centers work with two groups of children and young people, one in the morning and one in the afternoon: during the morning are offered breakfast and lunch, while the afternoon group is offered lunch and afternoon snack. This service is of utmost importance because being very poor areas often the only meals the children and the children consume during the day are those offered by the projects of the Casa do Menor.
